The Federal Fire Service has called on residents, business owners, and property managers to strictly comply with fire safety regulations and improve awareness of preventive measures in public and private buildings.
Assistant Comptroller General of the Service, Umar Faruk-Muhammad, made the call in a sympathy message issued on behalf of the Comptroller General, following a recent fire incident that affected residents and traders.

He expressed solidarity with those impacted and assured the public of the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
Faruk-Muhammad stated that officers of the service responded swiftly to contain the fire, noting that their prompt intervention helped to prevent further damage.
“The people at the fire scene have seen the measures taken by the Federal Fire Service. There is no need to explain further, as they commend our intervention,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of sustained public awareness on fire prevention, particularly the availability and proper use of fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers in homes, markets, and business premises.
According to him, property owners and traders must ensure their buildings are equipped with functional fire extinguishers and that occupants are familiar with their operation in case of emergencies.

“There should be proper awareness on fire safety accessories, how to operate them, and what steps to take immediately a fire incident starts,” he added.
The Assistant Comptroller General further disclosed that the service would engage with leaders of the Singa Market Association to strengthen fire prevention strategies and improve compliance with safety protocols.
He noted that discussions with market leadership would focus on enhancing awareness, strengthening preparedness, and preventing future fire outbreaks.
The Federal Fire Service reiterated its commitment to working closely with communities and stakeholders to promote fire safety and minimize risks across the country.
