The newly constructed TRC Bridge at the Challawa 6MW Hydro Power Site has been officially opened to the public, enhancing transportation and access between Turawa town, Karaye, Kiru, and surrounding communities.
The inauguration was led by the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Gaddafi Sani Shehu, who described the bridge as a landmark development that will significantly improve connectivity and socio-economic activities in the region.
He commended SKIPPER Nigeria Ltd for successfully executing the project, highlighting the company’s commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure.
“The TRC Bridge aligns with the broader development agenda of His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusuf, which prioritizes infrastructure expansion and sustainable socio-economic growth across the state,” Dr. Gaddafi Sani Shehu said.
He encouraged corporate bodies, NGOs, and individuals to invest in community-based projects to complement government efforts and achieve lasting development.
The Managing Director of the Kano Hydro and Energy Development Company (KHEDCO), Engr. Ado Ibrahim Doguwa, noted that the bridge would ease the movement of people and goods while stimulating commercial activity in the area.
Project Director, Mr. Shailendra Singh, confirmed the completion of the road bridge as part of the 2x3MW Challawa Hydro Power Project. He praised Project Manager Mr. Anurag Rana and the team for their dedication and professionalism throughout the construction period.
Mr. Singh also provided an update on the hydroelectric project, revealing that the Challawa 2x3MW Hydroelectric Project is expected to resume supplying power to the Kano State Government by the end of May 2026 or the first week of June 2026.
Controlled blasting operations will soon be conducted to remove the temporary access road created during construction to ensure optimal water flow from the TRC.
Dr. Vijaykumar Pundlik Sonawane added that the temporary bridge terrain is rocky and elevated over three and a half meters above the TRC, making controlled blasting necessary for safety. He assured residents that all precautions would be taken to protect nearby structures and minimize disruption to residents and businesses.
The Commissioner was accompanied by Engr. Bala Dambatt, Managing Director of the Rural Electricity Board (REB); Engr. Abduljabbar Muhammad Nanono, Deputy Managing Director of KHEDCO; and other directors of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.
The Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to delivering infrastructure projects that improve the quality of life for citizens and drive sustainable development across the state.
