The First Lady of Kebbi State, Hajia Zainab Nasare-Nasir Idris, has commended the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for supporting the state government’s efforts to provide relief to vulnerable communities affected by insecurity.
She made the remarks while flagging off the distribution of humanitarian relief materials at the Government Warehouse, Bulaza, in Birnin Kebbi.
According to her, the intervention reflects genuine solidarity with affected communities, particularly women and children who often bear the greatest burden of displacement caused by armed attacks. She described the gesture as timely and impactful in alleviating hardship among vulnerable households.
Speaking earlier, the Director-General of NEMA, Hajia Zubaida Umar, explained that the intervention followed a joint assessment conducted with relevant stakeholders to determine the number of affected persons and the scale of support required.
She noted that the items were meant to cushion the immediate hardship faced by the affected families and urged beneficiaries not to sell the relief materials but to use them judiciously.
In his remarks, the Secretary to the Kebbi State Government, Yakubu Bala-Tafida, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Alhaji Nasir Abubakar-Kigo, commended NEMA for the timely response to the needs of the people.
Similarly, the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu-Bashir, represented by the Wazirin Gwandu, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, expressed appreciation for NEMA’s support and lauded the state government’s efforts. He also called on residents to pray for lasting peace and an end to insecurity in the state and the country at large.
The relief materials provided by NEMA include 1,400 bags of 25kg rice, 1,400 bags of 25kg maize, 1,400 bags of 25kg beans, clothing, and other essential non-food items aimed at supporting displaced and vulnerable households.
