The Kano State Government KNSG has deployed an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered portable digital X-ray machine at Filin Mushe Primary Healthcare Centre in Gwale Local Government Area, enhancing efforts to combat Tuberculosis (TB) and improve healthcare delivery across the state.
The initiative, in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTP), is part of a wider program that has seen over 20 portable digital X-ray machines installed in selected primary healthcare centers across Kano to enable early TB detection and curb its spread.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner for Health Dr. Abubakar Labaran described the AI-powered machine as a modern innovation designed to detect TB at an early stage and prevent community transmission.
“Kano State is ranked first in Nigeria for TB case detection and prevention thanks to the dedication of our healthcare workers,” Dr. Yusuf said.
The Commissioner emphasized that the equipment, being costly and sophisticated, requires proper monitoring, protection, and maintenance by both health workers and the host community.
Dr Yusuf assured that steps would be taken to integrate more staff into the state workforce, further boosting the facility’s operations.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Ward Development Committee (WDC) in Gwale, Malam Zahraddeen Umar, commended the state government for the installation and pledged support to ensure the machine is effectively utilized.
He also urged the government to absorb temporary staff at the facility into permanent roles to strengthen service delivery.
The installation of the AI-powered diagnostic machine is expected to enhance Kano State’s ongoing efforts to eliminate Tuberculosis as a public health threat and improve access to quality primary healthcare services for residents.
