The Kebbi State Government has strongly refuted allegations that the administration of Nasir Idris has failed to make meaningful contributions to the development of the Islamic religion and the overall progress of the state.
The clarification was made by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Muhammad Sani Aliyu, during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital.

Architect Sani Aliyu described the allegations as unfounded and misleading, saying they were a deliberate distortion of the reality of the achievements recorded under the present administration. According to him, the claims were raised by Islamic cleric Bashir Jega during a Friday sermon in which he criticised the government over the state of religious affairs in Kebbi State.
The commissioner said the assertion that the current administration had done nothing for religion was inaccurate and ignored significant strides made since Governor Idris assumed office.
He explained that one of the most notable achievements of the administration was the creation of the Kebbi State Ministry of Religious Affairs, describing it as a major milestone that fulfilled a long-standing aspiration of the people of the state.

According to him, the establishment of the ministry ended more than 25 years of unsuccessful attempts by successive administrations—both military and civilian—to create a dedicated institution responsible for coordinating religious activities in the state.
Sani Aliyu further disclosed that the government had strengthened key religious institutions, including the Kebbi State Zakat and Waqf Board, the Kebbi State Preaching Board, and the Kebbi State Hisbah Commission.
He noted that these bodies had been provided with legal backing through gazetted laws as well as the necessary support to enable them carry out their responsibilities effectively.
The commissioner also urged religious leaders to remain focused on their primary responsibility of providing spiritual guidance and educating the public, rather than allowing themselves to be drawn into political antagonism that could mislead the people.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting religious harmony and supporting institutions that contribute to the moral and spiritual development of society in Kebbi State.
