The Kano State House of Assembly has called on the state government to establish Computer-Based Test (CBT) and ICT centres across all 44 local government areas to align with the new national examination policy for West African Examinations Council and National Examinations Council.
The resolution followed deliberations during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Falgore.
The motion was moved by the member representing Madobi Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Mukhtar Ishaq, who stressed that the new national policy mandating computer-based examinations requires urgent action to equip students with essential ICT skills.
He noted that establishing ICT centres across the state would bridge the digital divide and better prepare students in both urban and rural communities for CBT-based examinations.
The motion was seconded by Ali Lawan, representing Shanono/Bagwai Constituency, who described the initiative as timely and necessary.
In a related development, the Assembly also urged the state government to complete ongoing electrification projects in Garun Madadi and Yarguruza communities in Gwarzo Local Government Area.
The motion was presented by Yunusa Haruna, who highlighted that significant investments had already been made, noting that completing the projects would address persistent power challenges in the affected communities.
Supporting the motion, Sule Lawan Shuwaki said the completion of the electrification project would significantly boost economic activities in the area.
Meanwhile, the Assembly also received a report on the accounts of the Rano Emirate Council covering the 2023–2024 period. It also adopted motions for the rehabilitation of Buda Dam in Garko and road construction in Makoda.
