The Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, has conducted a sensitisation exercise aimed at strengthening compliance with Customs processes and procedures among stakeholders operating within the Command.
This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Tahir Balarabe.
According to the statement, the event was attended by the Zonal Coordinator, Zone B, Nsikan Umoh, alongside key stakeholders involved in trade and Customs operations within the Command.
Speaking during the sensitisation exercise, the Acting Customs Area Controller of the Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Usman Adamu, commended stakeholders for their cooperation and level of compliance since his assumption of office.
He noted that the improved compliance had translated into measurable achievements, particularly within the Free Trade Zone (FTZ).
“In the Free Trade Zone alone, the Command recorded a remarkable performance in April, generating about ₦7 billion in 2026 compared to ₦1.8 billion in the corresponding period of 2025. However, the reward for compliance is more compliance. That is why this sensitisation exercise is organised to consolidate the gains achieved,” he stated.
The sensitisation programme featured presentations on major operational areas, including excise operations, Customs clearance procedures, trade facilitation within the Free Trade Zone and the Unified Customs Management System, popularly known as B’Odogwu.
According to Balarabe, the presentations provided participants with practical insights into regulatory requirements, cargo clearance procedures and the Service’s ongoing modernisation initiatives aimed at improving compliance, enhancing operational efficiency and facilitating legitimate trade.
Speaking at the event, ACG Umoh praised stakeholders for their continued cooperation and encouraged them to embrace the ongoing reforms and technological innovations introduced by the Service.
“I want to appreciate the level of participation by the stakeholders and encourage them to embrace the technological innovations of the Service. This sensitisation exercise is designed to enhance understanding of the Customs clearance processes and procedures for greater efficiency and compliance,” she said.
