The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in safeguarding public health, enhancing consumer protection, and reducing regulatory overlaps between both agencies.
The agreement is expected to improve coordination in regulatory enforcement, information sharing, and joint investigations, with the ultimate goal of ensuring safer products and a more effective consumer protection framework across Nigeria.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, described the MoU as a strategic framework designed to deepen synergy between both institutions in carrying out their respective mandates.
She stressed the need for effective implementation of the agreement, particularly in areas such as investigation, consumer safety enforcement, and regulatory coordination.
Prof. Adeyeye added that stronger collaboration would help both agencies respond more efficiently to emerging public health and consumer protection challenges, while also improving regulatory outcomes for Nigerians.
On his part, the Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, Mr. Tunji Bello, commended NAFDAC’s leadership for the initiative, describing the agreement as a deliberate step toward more coordinated regulation within Nigeria’s consumer market.
He noted that improved inter-agency cooperation would reduce duplication of efforts and enhance enforcement efficiency.
According to both agencies, the MoU will run for four years and is renewable upon expiration.
It is also expected to establish structured mechanisms for sustained collaboration in investigations, consumer protection enforcement, and broader regulatory activities in the public interest.
