The Primary Health Care (PHC) Coordinator of Rano Local Government Area, Alhaji Ya’u Durum, has called on households across the area to ensure that pregnant women and children under the age of five regularly attend the nearest health facilities for routine immunisation services.
Durum made the appeal while inspecting the ongoing Big Catch-Up/Integrated Booster Response (IBR) immunisation exercise aimed at vaccinating pregnant women and children aged 0 to 59 months against vaccine-preventable diseases in the local government area.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Information Officer of the Rano Zonal Information Office, Abdullahi Musa Gyadi-Gyadi.
Speaking during the inspection, the PHC Coordinator stressed the importance of immunisation in protecting the health of pregnant women and children, noting that vaccines remain one of the most effective tools for reducing illness and mortality associated with preventable diseases.
He urged parents and caregivers to take full advantage of the exercise by ensuring that all eligible women and children receive the required vaccines.
Also speaking, the Area Health Educator, Malam Nura Ladan Kibiya, highlighted the significance of routine immunisation and active community participation in achieving improved public health outcomes.
He called on residents of Rano to continue supporting health workers and health programmes to ensure the success of the exercise and the attainment of healthier communities.
In his remarks, the Rano Zonal Director of the Primary Health Care Management Board, Alhaji Sani Muhammad Burum-Burum, explained that the Big Catch-Up/IBR campaign was designed to identify and vaccinate children who may have missed previous vaccination opportunities.
He assured residents that qualified health personnel had been deployed across the local government area to guarantee the effective implementation of the programme.
The Dan Makwayo of Rano and District Head of the area, Alhaji Bala Garba, commended the Kano State Government and development partners for bringing the exercise closer to the people.
He pledged the continued support of traditional leaders in mobilising communities and encouraging residents to participate fully throughout the immunisation campaign.
