Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Council of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, as part of efforts to restore stability and strengthen governance at the institution.
The newly inaugurated Governing Council was sworn in at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi following a major restructuring at the institution, which led to the removal of the Vice-Chancellor, two Deputy Vice-Chancellors and other members of the university management, as well as the dissolution of the previous Governing Council and its chairman.
Governor Nasir Idris said the decision was necessary to restore stability, strengthen governance and reposition the university for improved academic excellence. He expressed confidence in the newly appointed council members, particularly the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Muhammad Abubakar Kaoje, describing them as capable of steering the institution towards achieving its mandate.
The governor described AFUSTA as Kebbi State’s pioneering state-owned university and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting its growth and development.
He noted that Professor Kaoje, the institution’s pioneer Vice-Chancellor, possesses extensive institutional experience that would be invaluable to the council, urging members to work closely with the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mungadi, and the university’s management to advance ongoing reforms.
Responding on behalf of the council, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Professor Muhammad Abubakar Kaoje, thanked Governor Idris for the confidence reposed in the members and pledged their commitment to discharging their responsibilities diligently.
He also assured the governor that the council would maintain regular engagement with the state government to ensure effective governance and the continued development of the university.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, who presented the council members to the governor, said the composition reflects broad stakeholder representation, bringing together professionals from diverse fields and key stakeholders in university administration to ensure inclusive and effective governance.
