The Jigawa State Government has suspended four Local Government Education Secretaries for allegedly shielding teachers who abandoned their duties for several months.
The Executive Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Haruna Musa, confirmed the suspension in an interview with newsmen.

According to him, the affected officials are from Kirikasamma, Auyo, Miga, and Maigatari Local Government Areas.
He said they were found to have played roles in concealing the prolonged absence of some classroom teachers who had not reported to their duty posts for over six months.
Professor Haruna stated that the disciplinary action aims to restore accountability and discipline within the basic education sector in the state.
Reports indicate that SUBEB had also stopped the salaries of 239 teachers who were found to have abandoned their duties for an extended period.
According to him” Apart from the 239 classroom teachers we stopped their salaries, we also identified five more who are not going to school and their names have not been included by the affected education secretaries ”

“I visited Miga for inspection and in the two schools I visited, I discovered that five more teachers are not going to school for months without any excuses, and their names are not included in the list of defaulted teachers ”
“Therefore these show that even those who are responsible for ensuring proper monitoring are not doing their job causing an education crisis in the state ”
He said that henceforth, the Board will continue to track the schools’ monitors, quality assurance, head teachers, staff officers and education secretaries of each of the twenty-seven localgovernmentsts to ensure they are doing their job accordingly.
He noted that his team will continue to visit other local Governments and any other education secretary found with a similar act will be suspended.
