Nigeria has reaffirmed its strong commitment to advancing women’s empowerment, gender equality, and inclusive social development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
This was declared by the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, during the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women held in Beijing, China.

Delivering Nigeria’s National Country Statement on the theme “One Shared Future: New and Accelerated Process for Women’s All-Round Development,” the Minister expressed gratitude to the Government of the People’s Republic of China and UN Women for convening the landmark event.
She noted that the gathering comes at a defining moment — commemorating 80 years of the United Nations, 30 years of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 25 years of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, and 30 years of the Global Social Development Agenda.
“These milestones remind us that the advancement of women is central to peace, prosperity, and sustainable development,” the Minister stated.

Suleiman-Ibrahim recalled that, in response to the 1995 Beijing Conference, Nigeria established the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development as the national institutional mechanism for gender equality and social inclusion — a coordinating body that continues to drive initiatives protecting women, children, and vulnerable groups nationwide.
She highlighted several national frameworks powering Nigeria’s transformative agenda, including:
National Gender Policy (2021–2026)
National Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy (2023)
National Policy on Ending Child Marriage
Third National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (2025–2030)
“These policies are designed to expand opportunity, protect rights, strengthen resilience, and increase investment for women and families,” she explained.
The Minister also announced the rollout of the Renewed Hope Social Impact Interventions-774 (RH-SII-774) — a comprehensive national delivery platform operating across all 774 Local Government Areas.
The initiative integrates nine interlinked pillars with a focus on women, children, and family-centered transformation — aimed at revitalizing local economies and deepening social inclusion.
Reiterating Nigeria’s determination to improve women’s political participation, Hon. Suleiman-Ibrahim referenced the Special Reserved Seats Bill before the National Assembly as a key step toward equitable representation. She, however, noted the need to close a USD 1.2 billion financing gap through blended finance, private sector partnerships, and innovative investment mechanisms to scale ongoing interventions.
“Empowering women is not an act of charity, but an investment in productivity, peace, and shared prosperity,” the Minister declared.
She reaffirmed that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigeria has moved “from commitment to action, from promise to measurable progress,” ensuring that “no woman is unseen, no girl unheard, no child forgotten, and no family left behind.”
The Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women 2025 concluded with a renewed global call to action urging governments, development partners, and civil society to fast-track efforts toward gender equality and women’s all-around development.
