Students gained fresh insights into the aviation industry as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), in collaboration with representatives from Columbia State University, hosted a career awareness programme aimed at preparing young people for opportunities in the sector.
Welcoming participants, Azeh Benjamin, Regional Manager of the NCAA, introduced officials from the U.S.-based institution and urged students to embrace career guidance as part of their personal development.
He emphasized the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge and confidence needed to thrive beyond the classroom.
Prof. Muhammed Kabir Dauda also addressed the gathering, outlining the NCAA’s mandate in safeguarding aviation operations across the country.
He noted that part of the agency’s responsibility is to enlighten the next generation about available career pathways in aviation and the skills required to pursue them.
Aviation professionals delivered presentations to further broaden students’ understanding of the field. Pilot and flight instructor Haruna Nura Suleiman traced the history of aviation from the pioneering innovations of the Wright Brothers and reiterated that safety remains the foremost duty of every pilot.
He also introduced student pilots at the event as examples of emerging talent within the industry.
Similarly, cabin crew member Edward S. Jonathan clarified that the proper titles for his profession are “cabin crew” or “flight attendant.” He explained the critical role they play in ensuring passenger safety and comfort, while highlighting the accessibility of training programmes for those interested in joining the profession.
The event concluded with students expressing renewed interest and curiosity about the diverse career options in aviation, leaving many inspired to explore opportunities in the fast-growing global industry.
