The Kano State government has reiterated its commitment to enhancing the capacity of its information officers and modernizing its state-owned media.

This was emphasized by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, shortly after defending the Ministry’s 2026 budget at the Kano State House of Assembly.

According to Waiya, the Ministry is dedicated to improving government communication and media relations to align with global standards.

This includes upgrading facilities and modernizing the library at the Ministry, as well as focusing on the retraining of information officers.

He stressed that the goal is to strengthen the media’s ability to project a positive image of Kano, build stronger relationships with media organizations, and ensure ethical journalism practices.

Furthermore, the Ministry aims to counter misinformation and promote accurate representation of the state.

Waiya also urged media organizations to refrain from spreading false information and damaging the reputation of Kano. He emphasized the need for responsible reporting and ethical standards in journalism.

After defending the budget, the Managing Director of the Kano State Radio Corporation, Alhaji Abubakar Adamu Rano, highlighted that the corporation’s focus will be on staff training and improving productivity.

He revealed that a recent survey showed that Radio Kano is the most popular radio station in the state, with strong listenership numbers, which he attributed to the dedication of the management and staff, as well as the continued support from the state government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The Deputy Managing Director of ARTV, Alhaji Idris Abba, also spoke on plans to procure modern equipment, recruit additional staff, and focus on continuous training to improve the station’s performance. If approved, these initiatives would help elevate the station to a global standard.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Kano State Film Censorship Board, Abba Al-Mustapha, emphasized the board’s plans for capacity-building programs and forums aimed at improving censorship in entertainment and addressing other responsibilities of the board.
