The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reiterated its commitment to strengthening inter-agency and international collaboration to fast-track Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
This commitment was reaffirmed during a strategic engagement between NITDA and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), where the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, was represented by the Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy, Dr. Dimie Shively Warowie, PhD.
The meeting focused on deepening cooperation with the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau to advance shared digital development goals.
Discussions centred on the collective ambition to ensure universal, meaningful, and affordable connectivity for all Nigerians, while also safeguarding the nation’s digital ecosystem.
The ITU representative commended Nigeria’s growing regulatory maturity, highlighting the country’s attainment of G5-level collaborative regulation.
The Bureau also praised the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijjani, for driving reforms in the sector.
Beyond commendations, the ITU reaffirmed its readiness to support NITDA through the provision of technical assistance, cybersecurity tools, and initiatives aimed at promoting inclusive connectivity and establishing functional digital transformation centres across Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the NITDA Director-General, Dr. Warowie outlined the agency’s strategic priorities, which include digital skills development, strengthening cybersecurity resilience, fostering innovation and digital entrepreneurship, and harmonising regulatory frameworks and technical standards across the digital ecosystem.
Both organisations expressed strong commitment to sustained collaboration, identifying digital literacy, cybersecurity capacity building, innovation support, school connectivity, and regulatory alignment as immediate areas of focus.
The renewed partnership underscores a shared resolve to leverage institutional synergies and global expertise to advance Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda and build a more inclusive, secure, and competitive digital economy.
