The Vulnerable People Support and Development Initiative (V-PeSDI) has presented a Letter of Recognition to the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr. Nura Iro Ma’aji, honouring him as a Champion of Vulnerable People in Kano State for his commitment to inclusive governance and engagement with Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
The recognition was presented during an advocacy visit led by the Coordinator of V-PeSDI, Aftahana Dahiru Sarina, aimed at acknowledging the Commissioner’s deliberate efforts toward promoting accessibility and inclusivity in public infrastructure projects across the state.

According to the group, Dr. Ma’aji has consistently demonstrated strong leadership in ensuring that government construction projects are designed to accommodate the needs of Persons with Disabilities, particularly by promoting disability-friendly and accessible public facilities.
Responding, the Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining inclusive standards in all state projects, assuring stakeholders that public buildings in Kano will continue to comply with accessibility requirements in line with the Kano State Disability Law.
He emphasized that inclusive infrastructure remains a key priority of his ministry, noting that equitable access to public facilities is essential for effective governance and social development.
A recent report by the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), released in March 2026, estimates that there are over 35 million Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria, with about 2.5 million residing in Kano State—highlighting the urgency of inclusive planning and implementation in governance.
V-PeSDI reiterated its commitment to advocating for the rights and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities through sustained engagement, partnerships, and community-based interventions across Kano State and beyond.

During the visit, the Coordinator was accompanied by the Chairman of the Kano Network of NGOs (KANET), Barr. Nura Ahmad Muhammad, and the Chairman of AMMKaS, Mallam Salisu Yusuf, both of whom commended the Commissioner for his inclusive leadership and dedication to disability-friendly infrastructure development.
