The Vulnerable People Support and Development Initiative (V-PeSDI) has successfully concluded its Ramadan Bread Distribution initiative, bringing relief and hope to vulnerable communities across Kano State.
The initiative, which ran throughout Ramadan 2026, provided daily bread support for Iftar to disadvantaged groups, including residents of Kwalli VVF Centre, inmates at the Remand Home, communities in Goron Dutse, and members of the Women’s Organization for Relief and Empowerment (WORE) based at the Emir’s Palace.
Beneficiaries described the intervention as timely and impactful, especially amid rising economic hardship and food scarcity. For many households, the bread distribution became a reliable source of nourishment to break their fast, easing the burden of daily survival during the holy month.
Beyond addressing hunger, the initiative highlighted the broader social and spiritual importance of giving during Ramadan—promoting compassion, strengthening community bonds, and restoring dignity among vulnerable populations. It also contributed to improved nutrition and reduced risks of malnutrition among beneficiaries.
The programme was made possible through the sustained support of the AMG Foundation, which has donated bread for five consecutive years and directly supported V-PeSDI for the past two years. The organization expressed special appreciation to its Chairman, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, for his continued commitment to humanitarian causes.
V-PeSDI also acknowledged the contributions of partner organizations, including the Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR), Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS), and the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN). Their technical and collaborative support enhanced the coordination and reach of the intervention.
The organization called on government agencies, development partners, and donor bodies to strengthen collaboration in expanding similar humanitarian efforts aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable communities.
