The New Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has called on eligible residents, particularly young people and women, to take advantage of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) online voter registration portal ahead of the July 24, 2026 deadline.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Gwarzo said the Commission’s self-service registration platform allows first-time voters to begin and complete their registration online using their National Identification Number (NIN).
He noted that the initiative eliminates the need for long queues at registration centres, making the process more accessible.
“This new portal removes the barrier of long queues. Our young people, our mothers and sisters can now register from home using their phones or computers. There is no excuse not to participate,” he said.
Gwarzo described voting as a fundamental democratic right and encouraged eligible citizens to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing them as essential tools for driving positive change.
“The PVC is your power. It is the weapon we have to bring about positive change for our families, our communities and Kano State. I am calling on our youth and women especially—register, collect your PVC and vote in 2027,” he stated.
He urged prospective voters to complete their online pre-registration, present themselves for biometric capture where required, and collect their PVCs when available.
According to him, active participation in the electoral process is critical to strengthening democracy and shaping the future of Kano State and Nigeria.
Gwarzo also appealed to traditional and religious leaders, youth associations, women groups, and civil society organisations to intensify mobilisation efforts to ensure wider participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
