The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate extension of the Arterial Road S1 project under construction in Kaura District, Abuja, to connect directly with Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way).
Wike gave the directive on Friday during an inspection of the ongoing 2.4-kilometre road project, which is expected to be completed by December 2026.
Speaking with journalists after the inspection, the minister said extending the road corridor would improve connectivity within Kaura District, ease movement, and stimulate socio-economic development in the area.
“The first segment of this road involved building the bridge, but we have directed that it be extended to link directly with Oladipo Diya Road. I have put pressure on the contractor to include this extension so the project achieves its full impact,” he said.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, noting that the three-span bridge, a major component of the project, has already been completed.
He assured residents that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) would continue to provide prompt funding to enable the contractor to deliver the project within the scheduled December deadline.
Wike said the road project would not only improve vehicular movement but also accelerate real estate development and transform the landscape of the district.
“This road is very key and very important. When completed, it will change the topography and landscape of this area. Real estate developers will also benefit because wherever roads are constructed, new developments spring up, creating jobs and boosting economic activities,” he stated.
The minister expressed confidence that the contractor would meet the expectations of the FCT Administration and deliver the project on schedule.
The 2.4-kilometre Arterial Road S1, featuring a three-span bridge, was flagged off in September 2025 to connect the Fire Service Station in Kaura District to Ring Road II.
The project is designed to improve emergency response times while supporting urban growth and infrastructure development across the Federal Capital Territory.
