Kano State Polytechnic has established unified structures for the Students’ Union Government, SUG, Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, MSSN, and National Association of Kano State Students, NAKSS.
The Polytechnic has also introduced Vice Presidents representing each of its Schools as part of measures to promote unity, accountability, effective representation and peaceful coexistence among students.

The Rector, Dr Abubakar Umar Farouk, disclosed this at the inauguration of the newly appointed student executives in Kano.
Represented by the Deputy Rector, Administration, Dr Maryam Kabir, the Rector said the new leaders were selected based on their academic records and good conduct.
Dr Maryam urged the executives to be innovative, forward-looking and inclusive in the discharge of their responsibilities.
She advised them to carry all students along and ensure that their leadership contributes positively to the development of the institution.

The Deputy Rector also urged the student leaders to channel their concerns through appropriate channels and embrace dialogue in resolving issues with management and other stakeholders.
She encouraged them to work closely with the Student Affairs Department to enhance their impact and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the Polytechnic.
Earlier, the Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs, Malam Aminu Shehu Gwarzo, described the establishment of the unified student leadership structures as a milestone in the history of Kano State Polytechnic.
He charged the new executives to regard their positions as a mandate to represent the entire student community, while assuring them of the support and cooperation of the Student Affairs Department.

In his acceptance remarks, the newly inaugurated SUG President, Comrade Aliyu Muhammad Tanimu of the School of Technology, pledged to represent all students irrespective of their schools, religion, tribe or ethnicity.
He said his administration would focus on security and welfare, academic excellence, transparency and effective communication, while calling for cooperation from students and management to promote peace and development in the Polytechnic.
