The Kebbi State Government has expressed readiness to support the National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, in its efforts to complete the association’s proposed National Secretariat in Abuja.

The Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Abubakar Umar Tafida, disclosed this while declaring open the 2026 National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of NAWOJ at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Birnin Kebbi.
Senator Tafida said the state government would continue to partner with journalists, particularly women journalists, in recognition of their contributions to national development, peacebuilding and social cohesion.
He assured NAWOJ of the government’s support towards achieving its objectives and improving the working conditions of women journalists.
The Deputy Governor said the NEC meeting provided an important platform for members to review the association’s activities, deliberate on issues affecting women journalists and the media profession, and develop strategies to advance their interests and those of society.
He said the Kebbi State Government recognised the important role journalists play in promoting good governance, accountability, development and peaceful coexistence.

Senator Tafida noted that women journalists continued to make significant contributions to the media industry despite professional and personal challenges confronting them.
Speaking earlier, the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Aishatu Ibrahim, described the meeting as more than a routine gathering, saying it provided an opportunity for members to reflect, deliberate and take decisions capable of strengthening the association.
She commended the Kebbi State Government and people for hosting the NEC meeting, describing the gesture as recognition of the contributions of women journalists to development, peace, accountability and good governance.
The NAWOJ National Chairperson highlighted the association’s plan to establish a permanent National Secretariat in Abuja and appealed to the Kebbi State Government and other stakeholders to support the initiative.
She disclosed that NAWOJ had acquired land for the proposed secretariat and commenced an appeal for financial support towards its construction.
In her remarks, the National Secretary of NAWOJ, Wasila Ladan, said promoting peace, stability and harmony within the association’s chapters and among its members remained one of the priorities of the current administration.

She said the leadership had adopted dialogue, consultation and an open-door approach to resolving differences and ensuring that members were carried along in the affairs of the association.
Ladan added that the NEC meeting would also strengthen collaboration between the National Secretariat, zones and state chapters, as well as inaugurate an electoral committee ahead of the association’s forthcoming general elections.
