The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has launched its Digital Transformation and Change Management Roadmap and inaugurated its first cohort of Digital Champions as part of efforts to modernise operations and strengthen basic education delivery across Nigeria.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba, highlights the Commission’s commitment to leveraging technology, innovation, and data-driven systems to improve efficiency and educational outcomes nationwide.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Garba said the transformation agenda extends beyond the deployment of technology, stressing that it is also focused on changing organisational mindsets, improving processes, and fostering a culture of innovation within the Commission.
She explained that the roadmap outlines key initiatives, including the adoption of modern digital tools such as Microsoft 365 and the UBEC Hub Intranet, the expansion of Smart Schools and Digital Learning Centres, the strengthening of education data management systems, and the establishment of strategic partnerships to drive innovation across the sector.
According to her, the newly inaugurated Digital Champions, selected from UBEC departments as well as zonal and state offices, will play a critical role in promoting digital adoption, supporting colleagues, and driving continuous improvement throughout the Commission.
Dr. Garba reaffirmed that the digital transformation journey is designed to build a more efficient institution, strengthen Nigeria’s basic education system, and create better learning opportunities for every Nigerian child.
As part of the event, digital devices were presented to the newly inaugurated Digital Champions to support their roles in advancing the Commission’s digital agenda.
The occasion also featured the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Dr. Garba in recognition of her leadership and contributions to advancing digital transformation within Nigeria’s basic education sector.
