The Centre for Gender Studies (CGS) Bayero University Kano (BUK) has commemorated its 10th anniversary with a ceremony held at the CBN Centre of Excellence, bringing together scholars, policymakers, diplomats, and gender advocates to celebrate a decade of academic excellence, research innovation, and women’s empowerment.
Delivering the keynote address, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusion, institutional capacity building, and digital investment for women and girls under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tuggar highlighted the government’s achievements in promoting women’s participation in peacebuilding, diplomacy, and international relations.
He noted that Nigeria’s foreign policy continues to reflect the inclusion of women as key agents of change, advocating for equitable partnerships and sustainable development.
“Women are agents of change who provide holistic solutions to human conflict. The government remains committed to ensuring their full inclusion in all sectors,” Tuggar said.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of BUK, Professor Haruna Musa, commended the Centre for its impact over the past decade, describing it as a national model in gender advocacy and research.
He revealed that BUK’s Gender Policy and Sexual Harassment Policy have been recognized by the World Bank as some of the most comprehensive frameworks in higher education.

Earlier, the Director of the Centre, Ambassador Safiya Ahmad Nuhu, highlighted CGS’s achievements, including a state of the art confidential corner mentorship programs, youth empowerment initiatives, and partnerships with local and international organizations.
“Our doors remain open for collaboration as we continue to promote gender equity, research excellence, and sustainable development,” she said.
The celebration also featured awards of recognition to distinguished personalities, including Hajiya Amina Namadi Sambo, wife of the former Vice President, as well as former directors and long-serving staff of the Centre.
