CITAD described the alleged actions as a threat to freedom of expression, a right guaranteed under Section 39 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The use of security agencies to silence lawful criticism risks creating a climate of fear incompatible with democratic governance,” the organisation said.
The group also warned that the apparent pattern of arrests, particularly where due process is unclear, could discourage public participation and shrink civic space in the state.
CITAD called for, the immediate and unconditional release of all individuals detained for peacefully exercising their rights.
An end to harassment or intimidation of citizens expressing lawful opinions, both online and offline.
