The Kano State House of Assembly KNHA held a public hearing on the 2026 Appropriation Bill at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, as part of efforts to promote transparency and public participation in governance.
The hearing brought together lawmakers, civil society organisations, development partners and citizen groups, who were given the opportunity to contribute inputs and recommendations ahead of the final passage of the 2026 budget.

Speaking at the event, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, emphasised the critical role of the legislature in shaping the state’s development agenda.
He noted that the responsibility of scrutinising and approving the budget “cannot be overemphasised,” describing the budget as the primary tool through which government policies and programmes are translated into tangible actions that affect citizens’ lives.
Rt. Hon. Falgore commended the Kano State Governor for the timely submission of the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Assembly, describing it as a positive step that allows for comprehensive legislative review.

He assured stakeholders that the proposed budget would undergo rigorous scrutiny to ensure transparency, accountability and value for money, in line with the development priorities of the state.
The Speaker further pledged that submissions and recommendations from civil society organisations, development partners and citizen representatives would be given due consideration during the budget review process.
Earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Aminu Sa’adu, welcomed participants and described their presence as a clear demonstration of inclusive governance.
He explained that the public hearing provides a platform for citizens to directly influence government spending priorities.
Hon. Sa’adu stated that contributions made during the hearing would guide the Assembly in aligning budget allocations with the real needs of the people, particularly at the grassroots level.
He assured stakeholders that critical issues raised would be reflected in the final budget to drive development across key sectors of the state.
The public hearing is expected to influence legislative decisions as deliberations on the 2026 Appropriation Bill continue, reinforcing Kano State’s commitment to participatory budgeting and accountable governance.
