The Kebbi State Police Command has launched a statewide clearance operation to combat banditry and violent crimes, in line with directives from the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
According to the statement, the command responded decisively to a coordinated attack on several communities in Shanga Local Government Area, including Gebe, Kalkami, Kawara, Kasoshi, Awaye, Tungar Rini, Binuwa, and Dabe, which resulted in 44 casualties.
Following the attack, security forces carried out massive deployments across the affected areas, restoring relative calm while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The police explained that the clearance operation is targeting high-risk locations such as farmlands, forests, border communities, and remote settlements. It involves coordinated patrols, intelligence-led stop-and-search operations, and joint actions with other security agencies.
As part of the operation, security operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles along the Illo-Kamba axis, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, called on residents to remain vigilant and support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities.
He also urged traditional rulers, community leaders, religious bodies, and youth groups to collaborate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to help curb criminal activities in the state.
