Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and security across the state.
The governor gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Administration and Finance and supervising the North-West zone, Suleiman Muhammad Abdul, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
Governor Idris expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for fulfilling his promise to dispatch a high-level delegation to assess the security situation in the state and identify areas requiring further intervention.
He commended the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police and officers serving in the state for their dedication, professionalism, and prompt response to security challenges, noting that their efforts have contributed significantly to safeguarding lives and property.
The governor observed that Kebbi’s strategic location, sharing international borders with the Republic of Niger and the Republic of Benin, has made some border communities vulnerable to infiltration by bandits and members of the Lakurawa group.
According to him, the state does not host bandit camps, as criminal elements often cross into Kebbi from neighbouring territories to carry out attacks before retreating to their bases.
Governor Idris expressed confidence that the assessment being conducted by the DIG-led delegation would yield valuable recommendations capable of strengthening security architecture and enhancing the safety of residents across the state.
Earlier, DIG Suleiman Muhammad Abdul said he was in Kebbi on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to convey the Force’s appreciation to Governor Idris for his unwavering support to the Nigeria Police Force.
He particularly lauded the governor for providing operational vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), describing the intervention as a major boost to police operations and security management in the state.
The DIG noted that the Inspector-General highly values the governor’s contributions to policing and security, adding that the visit also afforded the delegation an opportunity to sympathise with the government and people of Kebbi State over the loss of lives caused by banditry attacks, including security personnel who died in the line of duty.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to working closely with the Kebbi State Government and other stakeholders to tackle emerging security challenges and ensure lasting peace in the state.
