The Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA) has urged the state government to immediately put into use the Tailoring and Garment Training Centre located in Falgoren Daji, Doguwa Local Government Area.
The call followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Doguwa constituency, Alhaji Salisu Ibrahim Muhammad, during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore.

Salisu expressed concern that equipment worth billions of naira had been abandoned at the training centre for years without being utilised.
He stressed that if revived, the facility would significantly reduce unemployment by empowering women and youth with entrepreneurial skills.
Highlighting the dedication of the centre’s security guard, Salisu Ado, the lawmaker commended him for not only safeguarding the facility without ever receiving a salary but also using his personal income to carry out minor repairs at the site.
The motion was seconded by Aminu Saadu Ungogo (Ungogo), Muhammad Bello (Rimin Gado), and Hamza Zubairu Massu (Sumaila), who noted that the garment centres were established between 2011 and 2012 by former Governor Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to create jobs and expand market opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

The lawmakers emphasised that entrepreneurship skills have already been integrated into school curricula to promote self-reliance and cited examples of other LGAs, such as Bebeji, which have successfully put their centres into use.
After deliberations, the House mandated its Standing Committee on Commerce to visit all 44 local government areas of the state to assess the status of the tailoring and garment centres and report back within two weeks.
The House also called on the state government to upgrade the Yako Dam in Kiru LGA to global standards, in a motion moved by Usman Tasiu.
He explained that the upgrade would provide relief to communities facing acute water scarcity and boost irrigation farming in the area.
However, the lawmakers further received and adopted a report on the 2025 Hajj operations.
The House adjourned its sitting to Monday, September 22, 2025, in a motion moved by the Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini Dala.
