The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic and commercial ties with Vietnam during a meeting with the country’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Le Anh Tuan.
The meeting highlighted the longstanding cordial relationship between Nigeria and Vietnam, with both sides expressing a shared commitment to translating their strong political relations into tangible economic and commercial benefits for their citizens.
During the talks, Le Anh Tuan stressed the need to strengthen the legal and institutional framework guiding bilateral cooperation.
He called for the early conclusion and implementation of key agreements, including Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), agreements on the Promotion and Protection of Investments, the Avoidance of Double Taxation, and other cooperation frameworks.
According to him, the agreements would provide a stronger legal foundation for expanded economic cooperation while boosting investor confidence and facilitating increased business activities between both countries.
Responding, Ambassador Enikanolaiye welcomed the growing partnership between Nigeria and Vietnam and reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to deepen cooperation in political, economic, commercial and technical sectors.
He emphasized the importance of sustained high-level engagements and reciprocal official visits in strengthening bilateral relations, expressing Nigeria’s willingness to undertake an official visit to Vietnam in the near future.
The Minister also welcomed ongoing discussions on the possibility of a future State Visit by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Vietnam, describing it as a significant step towards expanding cooperation between the two nations.
