The Kebbi State Police Command has intensified enforcement against vehicles operating without proper registration as part of efforts to strengthen public safety and prevent criminal activities across the state.
The move is in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police aimed at curbing the use of unregistered and improperly identified vehicles for criminal activities.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman.
According to the statement, police operatives in Birnin Kebbi successfully recovered a stolen gold-coloured Mercedes-Benz C200, 2009 model, following credible information received through the Command’s emergency communication channels.
The vehicle was recovered at the Bayan Kara area of Birnin Kebbi, where one suspect identified as Ahmed Sa’adu was arrested in connection with the theft.
Police said another suspect, Kasimu Bunza, is currently at large, while tools believed to have been used in carrying out the theft were also recovered during the operation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle belongs to Abdulaziz Abubakar Sadik of Sokoto State and had been reported stolen before its recovery.
The statement noted that the arrested suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the theft and facilitate the arrest of all persons connected to the crime.
The Command reiterated its commitment to enforcing regulations on vehicle registration and warned that vehicles operating without valid registration plates, as well as those with concealed, defaced, altered or obstructed number plates, would face lawful enforcement actions.
According to the police, proper vehicle registration remains a critical tool for crime prevention and public security, as criminal elements often exploit unregistered vehicles to commit offences and evade detection.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents that intelligence-led operations would be sustained to safeguard lives and property throughout the state.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies through the Command’s emergency communication channels.
The Kebbi State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and called on vehicle owners to comply fully with registration requirements to support ongoing efforts to enhance public safety.
