The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, has hosted the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue Matters and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja for the formal inauguration of consultants engaged for the national revenue recovery exercise.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Shehu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal governance and ensuring that all revenues due to the Federation are fully recovered and remitted into the Federation Account.
“This exercise is not a routine administrative action but a deliberate, result-oriented innovation designed to strengthen fiscal governance and ensure every recoverable naira due to the Federation is transparently remitted,”
The RMAFC Chairman explained that the engagement of consultants represents a strategic move to plug revenue leakages, enhance transparency, and boost the fiscal capacity of the three tiers of government.
He emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on economic reform and accountability.
Dr. Shehu further noted that the project enjoys the full backing of the Presidency and the Federal Inland Revenue Service, describing it as a coordinated effort to identify and recover unremitted revenues across various sectors of the economy.
Representing the FIRS Chairman, the Coordinating Director, Mr. Shettima Tamadi, officially inaugurated the consultants and commended the RMAFC leadership for its proactive approach to revenue reform.
“Nigeria has a huge revenue gap, but with stronger collaboration between agencies and partners, we can bridge that gap and achieve sustainable fiscal growth,” he said.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the Commission, Mr. Joseph Nwaeze Okechukwu, thanked all stakeholders for their support and charged the consultants to complete their assignment within the stipulated six-month timeframe. He urged them to ensure that all recoverable revenues are returned to the Federation Account promptly to support national development priorities.
Delivering his acceptance remarks on behalf of the consultants, the lead consultant, Mr. Temitayo Ojeleke, described the engagement as a national call to duty. He assured both the RMAFC and FIRS of their commitment to professionalism, transparency, and measurable results.
“We accept this assignment as partners in Nigeria’s economic renewal, ready to deliver outcomes that will strengthen the nation’s revenue base,” he affirmed.
The inauguration marks a major milestone in RMAFC’s efforts to deepen inter-agency collaboration, improve fiscal accountability, and maximize revenue generation for the collective benefit of the Federation.
