Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Alpha 10 Fund Management Limited to provide free financial literacy training for students and staff as part of efforts to promote financial education and investment awareness within the university community.
The agreement was signed on Friday at the Presidential Conference Hall of the university in Kano, with members of the management teams of both organisations in attendance.
Under the partnership, students and staff will receive training on personal financial management, including budgeting, saving and investing. The agreement will also provide members of the university community with access to information on the various investment opportunities offered by Alpha 10 Fund Management Limited.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Managing Director of Alpha 10 Fund Management Limited, represented by the Regional Manager, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Ardo, said the initiative is aimed at equipping participants with lifelong financial management skills that would prepare them for financial independence.
He said the company currently operates three investment products, including the Islamic Halal Fund, and noted that the collaboration aligns with its commitment to promoting financial inclusion and responsible investment.
The Managing Director commended the management of MAAUN for its dedication to quality education, describing the institution as one of the leading private universities with international recognition.
He added that the partnership would also enable interested members of staff to invest in the company’s financial products, a move he said could reduce financial stress, improve workplace productivity and enhance overall financial well-being.
In his remarks, the President of MAAUN, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, described the agreement as a strategic partnership that would benefit both students and staff by improving financial literacy and expanding access to investment opportunities.
He explained that the collaboration focuses on four key areas, including free financial literacy training and investment opportunities for members of the university community.
Prof. Israr also expressed the university’s readiness to extend the partnership to other institutions within the MAAUN Group of Universities, namely MAAUN Niger, Franco-British International University, Kaduna, and Canadian University of Nigeria, Abuja.
Also speaking, the Vice President (Administration), Dr. Habib Awais, said the collaboration would open new opportunities for students and staff by exposing them to professional financial management practices.
He noted that the agreement comes at a critical time, considering the prevailing economic realities in the country, and expressed confidence that it would strengthen the relationship between MAAUN and Alpha 10 Fund Management Limited.
In her closing remarks, the Assistant Head of the International Office, Mrs. Janvi Haresh, appreciated the university management for facilitating the partnership and expressed optimism that the agreement would deliver lasting benefits to both students and staff.
The partnership is expected to enhance financial literacy among members of the university community while promoting informed investment decisions and long-term financial sustainability.
