The Federal Republic of Nigeria has been re-elected to the Board of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Public Key Directory (PKD) for a sixth consecutive term, further strengthening the country’s standing in global aviation security and travel document integrity.
The re-election took place on Thursday, December 11, 2025, during the 31st ICAO-PKD Board Meeting held in Montreal, Canada.
Nigeria’s delegation to the election was led by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap.
The successful outcome reflects Nigeria’s sustained contributions to the PKD system, including shared implementation experiences, technical innovations, and leadership in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), electronic Machine-Readable Travel Document (eMRTD) verification, and digital identity harmonization.
Nigeria has been an active member of the ICAO-PKD since 2009 and has played a critical role in shaping the directory’s strategic development and modernization over the years.
The latest re-election is a recognition of the country’s technical expertise, regulatory compliance, and unwavering commitment to ICAO’s Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).
With this development, Nigeria retains its seat among fifteen Board Members selected from 107 participating ICAO-PKD States worldwide, highlighting its influence and credibility in international civil aviation and border management affairs.
The achievement also reaffirms the Nigeria Immigration Service’s alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in meeting Nigeria’s international obligations and enhancing global cooperation on secure travel.
The Service reiterated its commitment to strengthening border security, advancing digital identity initiatives, and safeguarding the integrity of Nigerian travel documents for citizens and residents alike.
