The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has retained its status as the cheapest private university in the country, despite being ranked as the second-best private university nationwide.
The Founder of the university, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, disclosed this during the First Convocation Dinner organised for the Class of 2025 graduating students at the university’s main campus on Thursday.
Prof. Gwarzo reassured parents and guardians of the institution’s unwavering commitment to delivering quality education and academic excellence at an affordable cost. He urged them to always channel their concerns through the university management for prompt resolution rather than resorting to social media.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of the university, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, welcomed parents, students and invited guests, describing the convocation dinner as a historic milestone in the growth and development of MAAUN.
The Vice President (Administration), Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, congratulated the graduating students and expressed appreciation to parents and stakeholders for their support and presence at the event.
In his goodwill message, the Director of the European Centre for Leadership and Entrepreneurship Education, Prof. Mahamouda Salouhou, commended Prof. Gwarzo for establishing the university, noting that the initiative would inspire more individuals to invest in education. He also congratulated parents for choosing MAAUN, which he said has Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with leading universities in the United States.
Similarly, Prof. Hakeem Ibukunle of Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA, congratulated the graduating students and their parents, describing the occasion as a significant academic achievement. He praised Prof. Gwarzo for his dedication to advancing education in Nigeria and beyond.
Speaking separately, parents Alhaji Sa’idu Bello and Abdulrahaman Sulaiman Bawa Zaria expressed gratitude to the Founder, management and staff of the university for mentoring and guiding the students throughout their academic journey. They also congratulated the graduates on the successful completion of their studies.
The convocation dinner brought together students, university management, parents and invited guests in a relaxed and celebratory atmosphere.
The event featured musical performances by popular artistes Hamisu Breaker and Ahmerdy Mai Kallabi, as well as spoken-word presentations. Guests were also treated to a variety of local and continental dishes, alongside assorted drinks and refreshments.
