The President of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais, has condemned an incident in which a pilgrim jumped from the first floor of the Grand Mosque, describing the act as a clear violation of Islamic teachings and the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques.
In a statement, Sheikh Al-Sudais called on all visitors to strictly adhere to regulations and official instructions within the holy sites, emphasising the importance of upholding proper Islamic manners, revering the sacredness of the mosques, and devoting themselves to worship and obedience.
He warned against attempts by a very small number of individuals to jump from upper levels, emphasising that such acts constitute suicide, which is strictly forbidden in Islam.
He cited the Qur’anic injunction, “And do not kill yourselves,” as well as the saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “Whoever kills himself will be in the Fire of Hell,” asking Allah for protection.
Sheikh Al-Sudais further explained that one of the fundamental objectives of Islamic law is the preservation of human life, not exposing it to harm or destruction, referencing the verse: “And do not throw yourselves into destruction with your own hands.”
He commended the vigilance, courage, and professionalism of the security personnel at the Two Holy Mosques for their continuous efforts in ensuring the safety of pilgrims and visitors, preventing potential dangers, and maintaining a secure environment.
According to him, their conduct reflects the highest standards of ethical and humane responsibility and represents an honourable image of Saudi security forces.
The Religious Affairs President concluded by noting that these efforts demonstrate the great care and commitment of the Kingdom’s leadership toward the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of their visitors. He prayed for Allah’s guidance and success for all those serving the holy sites.
