The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is taking deliberate and necessary steps to stabilise Nigeria’s economy, strengthen national security and lay a solid foundation for long-term prosperity.
Idris stated this during a dinner with All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja.
Addressing party leaders and members of the support groups, the Minister expressed appreciation for their loyalty and continued backing, describing them as a critical pillar of the APC’s success.
He noted that the party assumed office at a particularly challenging period, requiring bold and sometimes difficult decisions to confront entrenched economic and security problems while safeguarding Nigeria’s future.
According to him, the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda is already yielding positive results, including improved investor confidence, increased oil production, enhanced revenue performance, and targeted support for states, businesses and vulnerable Nigerians.
The Minister stressed that transparent communication and citizen engagement remain central to the administration’s strategy, noting that reforms must be clearly explained to Nigerians to foster trust and a shared sense of national purpose.
Idris also highlighted the N58.18 trillion 2026 budget estimates presented earlier in the day by President Tinubu to the National Assembly, noting that Defence and Security, Infrastructure, Education and Health received priority attention.
Quoting the President, he explained that the four sectors are interconnected, as security is essential for investment, education and health drive productivity, while infrastructure underpins job creation and enterprise growth.
He said national security remains a top priority in 2026, with plans to modernise the armed forces, strengthen intelligence-led policing, enhance border security, deploy technology-driven surveillance, and support community-based peacebuilding and conflict prevention.
The Minister described APC support groups as more than election-time mobilisers, saying they play a vital role in defending facts, countering misinformation, and helping the public understand government policies.
He urged them to actively support the 2026 budget, tagged the “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” and to help communicate its objectives and benefits to Nigerians.
“As ambassadors of our party, your role in mobilising, informing and strengthening public confidence in our policies is more important than ever,” Idris said.
He assured the support groups that their contributions and sacrifices are recognised and appreciated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusion, fairness and rewarding hard work.
Idris called for unity and renewed dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda, urging party members to continue working with President Tinubu to build a stronger, more secure and more prosperous Nigeria.
The event was attended by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari; Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, Abdulhamid Dembos; Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr Mohammed Bulama; Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Jibrin Baba-Ndace; and leaders of various APC support groups.
