Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening ethical standards and professionalism in public information management across the state.
The governor made this known while declaring open a two-day capacity-building workshop for Information and Zonal Information Officers drawn from the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the governor spoke at the opening ceremony held at Babale Suites. The workshop was themed “Safeguarding Ethical and Professional Standards in Public Information Management: The Role of Information Officers.”
Governor Yusuf described investment in human capital development as a key driver of effective governance, noting that continuous training enhances skills, boosts morale, and improves productivity in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
He emphasized that his administration would continue to prioritize training and retraining programmes at local, national, and international levels to equip public servants with the necessary knowledge for efficient service delivery.
The governor further highlighted the crucial role of Information Officers in promoting transparency, bridging communication gaps between government and citizens, and ensuring the dissemination of accurate and timely information, particularly in the face of rising fake news and disinformation.
According to him, the government depends on Information Officers for feedback on public perception, community challenges, and policy impact. He urged them to remain proactive in reporting grassroots developments to support responsive governance and sustainable development.
Governor Yusuf also called on public officials to cooperate with Information Officers to enhance public access to government policies, programmes, and activities, thereby strengthening democratic processes.
He assured participants of the government’s commitment to providing modern working tools and a conducive environment for effective performance, while commending the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs for organizing the workshop.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the workshop as a reflection of the ministry’s dedication to professional excellence and effective information dissemination.
He expressed appreciation to the governor for his continued support for capacity-building initiatives, noting that previous training programmes have significantly improved the productivity and performance of Information Officers in the state.
Waiya stressed the importance of the workshop’s theme, stating that it would deepen participants’ understanding of ethical standards, transparency, and digital communication strategies required for modern information management.
He urged Information Officers to uphold professionalism, actively engage with the public, and contribute to building trust and confidence in government activities.
The commissioner added that the ministry would continue to strengthen partnerships with media organizations, professional bodies, and other stakeholders to promote effective communication and capacity development. He also encouraged participants to fully utilize the training to enhance their performance and service delivery.
