The Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, on Tuesday led the state prosecution team in the continuation of a criminal trial involving allegations of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide arising from a violent incident in Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.
The case came up before Kano State High Court No. 11, presided over by Justice Nasiru Saminu, where the Attorney-General personally appeared alongside senior officials of the Ministry of Justice.
Members of the prosecution team included the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Salisu Muhammad Tahir, and the Assistant Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Zahraddin Kofar Mata.
During proceedings, the prosecution presented three witnesses before the court, including Rukayya Yakubu, the mother of the prime suspect Umar, Binta Yakubu, and Anas Shu’aibu. The witnesses testified on issues relating to the allegations before the court.
Counsel to the defendants cross-examined the witnesses in line with due legal procedures, after which the court adjourned the matter to May 15, 2026, for continuation of hearing.
Speaking after the court session, the Attorney-General reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State Ministry of Justice to diligent and professional prosecution of criminal cases in accordance with the rule of law.
“The Kano State Ministry of Justice remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring that justice is served through diligent, fair, and professional prosecution of criminal matters in accordance with the rule of law,” Maude stated.
The Ministry also reiterated its commitment to strengthening justice delivery, accountability, and respect for the rule of law across the state, in line with the policies of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
It assured members of the public that all criminal matters would continue to be handled with professionalism and due process to ensure justice for victims and fairness for defendants.
