The Kebbi State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against kidnapping and other criminal activities, leading to the rescue of a kidnap victim and the neutralisation of a suspected gang leader.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence provided by a concerned member of the public. Acting on the information, police operatives, in collaboration with other security agencies, arrested one Bube Tukur of Yarma Village in Suru Local Government Area, who resides in Kasuwar Daji, Bagudo Local Government Area.
Investigations revealed that the suspect is a member of an eight-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly responsible for the abduction of Alhaji Abu Geza. During the operation, security personnel recovered a locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge from the suspect.
The police further stated that the victim, Alhaji Abu Geza, was rescued unharmed during the operation.
According to the Command, the suspect later led operatives to the hideout of the gang’s alleged leader, identified as Jiji Mujugu. Upon sighting the security team, the suspect reportedly opened fire in an attempt to evade arrest. Security operatives responded, and he was neutralised during the exchange.
A locally fabricated pistol was also recovered from the suspected gang leader.
The Police Command disclosed that the gang had been terrorising several communities, including Geza, Adawa, Matsinkai, Sharabi, Illela, Suru, Dakin Gari, Bagudo, and neighbouring areas.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate who remain at large.
The Commissioner of Police commended residents for their continued support and cooperation with security agencies, stressing that timely and credible information remains critical in combating crime.
He urged members of the public to report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 09039911876 and 07081074395, assuring that all information provided would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
