Thousands of sympathisers, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), on Friday attended the funeral of the Emir of Zuru, retired Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami.
The late emir, who passed away on Friday, was a former governor of Bauchi State during the military administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The funeral prayer, held at the Zuru Central Mosque, was led by the Chief Imam, Malam Suleman Muhammadu, shortly after the two raka’at Jumu’ah prayer.

Among the dignitaries present were the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III; the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II; Senator Bala Na Allah; the Emirs of Yawuri, Argungu, Anka, and Gummi; retired General Muhammadu Magoro, and Senator Maidoki.
Members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, state executive council, clerics, politicians, and business leaders were also in attendance.
In his condolence message, the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, described the death of the emir as a “great loss not only to his family, the Zuru Emirate, and Kebbi State, but to Nigeria as a whole.”

He noted that the late Sani Sami was a committed leader who contributed to national unity and development.
Similarly, the Sarkin Zamfara Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Muhammad Ahmed, who is also Chairman of the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, described the deceased as a respected ruler dedicated to the peace and progress of his people.
The Emir of Zuru, Muhammadu Sani Sami, retired from the Nigerian Army as a Major General before ascending the throne. He was widely respected for his service in both the military and traditional institution.
