The First Lady of Kebbi State, Hajiya Zainab Nasare-Nasir, has called on wealthy individuals to emulate the philanthropic efforts of Tukur Wasoso in supporting vulnerable groups, particularly persons with special needs.
The First Lady made the call in Jega during the distribution of Sallah gifts and clothing to the less privileged.
This was contained in a statement issued by her Press Secretary, Khadija Sa’idu.
Represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Aishatu Muhammad Maikurata, Nasare-Nasir commended Wasoso for his consistent support to the people of the state, noting that such acts of generosity have a positive impact on communities and the underprivileged.
She urged other affluent individuals to emulate the gesture in order to improve the welfare of vulnerable members of society.
In his remarks, Wasoso said the initiative marked his 21st year of providing assistance to the less privileged during the Ramadan period. He explained that the programme involves the distribution of free Sallah clothes to thousands of beneficiaries across the state.
He added that beyond the annual clothing distribution, he had also established a charity hospital in Jega to provide free medical services to women and children in the area.
According to him, he also set up a skills acquisition centre in Aliero where women and youths receive free vocational training along with starter packs to enable them become self-reliant.
Wasoso expressed appreciation to the First Lady for her support to the foundation over the past three years, including a donation of five million naira to assist its activities.
He disclosed that about 10,000 people drawn from across Kebbi State would benefit from the free Sallah clothing distributed through the initiative.
Also speaking, the Sarkin Kabi of Jega, Arzika Bawa Jega, and the Coordinator of the NASARA Foundation, Abdurasheed Bala, commended Wasoso for the gesture and urged other individuals to emulate his philanthropic efforts in supporting the less privileged.
