Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has reacted to renewed developments in the case of missing activist Abubakar Idris Dadiyata, calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
Kwankwaso said he had been made aware of recent testimony by a former aide to a former state governor, in which allegations were made that some police officers claimed responsibility for Dadiyata’s disappearance in Kaduna in 2019.
He noted that since Dadiyata was abducted, he and his associates have consistently called on authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The former governor commended the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for ordering what he described as a long-overdue comprehensive investigation into the matter, describing the move as a welcome development.
Kwankwaso urged the police authorities to ensure the integrity of the investigation by placing all individuals named in connection with the case under close surveillance to prevent interference with the process.
He also called on the government to make adequate provisions for compensation for Dadiyata’s family, should the investigation confirm his continued absence or establish any wrongdoing, citing the trauma and hardship they have endured over the years.
The former governor further commended members of the public for sustaining advocacy on the case since 2019, as well as Barrister Abba Hikima Fagge, whom he credited for playing a key role in recent developments.
Kwankwaso expressed hope that the renewed investigation would finally provide clarity and deliver justice for Dadiyata and his family, stressing that the truth must ultimately prevail in the case.
