President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, on Monday.

According to the statement, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, enhancing intelligence-driven operations, and improving inter-agency collaboration in tackling emerging security threats across the country.
The circular conveying the appointment was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued through the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.
Major General Famadewa (Rtd) is described as a highly decorated retired military officer with more than three decades of experience in national security strategy, counter-terrorism operations, intelligence coordination, and international security diplomacy.
During his service as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, he reportedly played a key role in shaping Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework.
He also led the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at ONSA, an integrated multi-agency intelligence platform involving the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.
Following his retirement, Famadewa served as Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, where he contributed to discussions on policing, civil-security cooperation, and national security reforms.
The statement noted that President Tinubu expressed confidence that Famadewa’s appointment would strengthen the administration’s efforts toward achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria through enhanced homeland security coordination, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management.
