The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote,on tuesday led a delegation from the Nigerian Law School and the Council of Legal Education on an assessment visit to the Faculty of Law at North-Eastern University as part of efforts to evaluate the institution’s readiness for an increased student admission quota.
The delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Yusuph Amuda Yahaya, alongside members of the university’s management team.
During the visit, the assessment team inspected key academic and support facilities, including lecture theatres, library resources, moot court facilities, staff offices, and other infrastructure essential to the delivery of quality legal education.
Speaking after the inspection, Dr. Odusote commended the university for the progress recorded in the development of its Faculty of Law. She, however, encouraged the institution to sustain efforts toward improving infrastructure, staffing, and academic delivery in line with the standards set by the Council of Legal Education.
The delegation also provided recommendations aimed at strengthening the faculty and enhancing its capacity to accommodate a possible increase in student admissions.
The team later held discussions with the Pro-Chancellor and Founder of the university, Sani Jauro, popularly known as the Danlawan of Gombe, on the future development of the Faculty of Law and the institution’s commitment to academic excellence.
In his remarks, Dr. Jauro reaffirmed the university’s dedication to the continuous development of its law programmes and pledged sustained collaboration with the Nigerian Law School and the Council of Legal Education to uphold the highest standards in legal education.
He expressed appreciation for the guidance and support provided by the regulatory bodies and assured the delegation that the university would continue to invest in research, staff development, mentorship programmes, learning facilities, and other academic resources necessary for producing competent legal professionals.
Also speaking, Professor Yahaya thanked the delegation for the assessment visit and reiterated the institution’s commitment to implementing the recommendations made by the team.
He emphasized that the university would continue to prioritize investment in infrastructure, academic quality, and staff development to maintain excellence in legal education.
North-Eastern University, Gombe, has already secured the required approvals from the Nigerian Law School and the Council of Legal Education to run its law programmes.
The institution also recorded outstanding results during the accreditation exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission, scoring above 94 per cent in both its LL.B. Common Law programme and the LL.B. Sharia and Common Law programme.
Currently training its pioneer set of law students, the university says it remains committed to sustaining high standards through continuous investment in academic facilities, qualified personnel, research, and student development.
