The Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta (ABCOAD), has continued its efforts to improve livestock health and strengthen practical agricultural education through its Mobile Veterinary Clinic, which conducted a successful ambulatory veterinary outreach in Wailare Community, Makoda LGA Kano .
During the outreach, a team of veterinary professionals and students from the college provided free deworming services to 230 animals, comprising 30 cattle and 200 sheep and goats, to protect them against parasitic infections that reduce productivity and threaten farmers’ livelihoods.
The exercise formed part of the college’s community extension programme aimed at taking quality veterinary healthcare to rural livestock farmers while promoting preventive animal health and sustainable livestock production.
In addition to providing veterinary services, the outreach offered students hands-on field experience under the supervision of experienced veterinarians.
The students participated in animal handling, clinical examinations, drug administration and interactions with livestock owners, enabling them to apply classroom knowledge in real-life situations.
Members of the veterinary team emphasized that routine deworming remains one of the most effective ways of maintaining healthy livestock, improving growth and productivity, and reducing economic losses associated with internal parasites.
They also encouraged livestock owners to adopt regular veterinary check-ups and other preventive healthcare measures to enhance animal welfare and increase productivity.
Beneficiaries of the intervention commended ABCOAD for the free veterinary services, describing the outreach as timely and impactful. They said the exercise would improve the health of their animals, boost productivity and reduce the cost of treating parasitic diseases.
The college noted that its Mobile Veterinary Clinic remains committed to combining quality veterinary healthcare with practical student training, reinforcing ABCOAD’s dedication to community service, experiential learning and sustainable livestock development across Kano State.
