Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has been conferred with the prestigious titles of Honorary Fellow and Grand Patron of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA) during the opening of the 7th National Transport Conference held in Abuja.
The Governor, who also chaired the conference and delivered the keynote address, described the recognition as “both humbling and deeply fulfilling.”
He noted that the gathering provided an opportunity to share Kaduna’s success story in transport reform, while also learning and exchanging ideas with other stakeholders committed to building a more mobile and connected Nigeria.
Governor Sani commended Prince Segun Obayendo, President of CIoTA, for his visionary leadership, describing him as “a driving force for professionalism, innovation, and reform in Nigeria’s transport sector.”
The conference featured several key dignitaries, including the Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, and the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Mukhtar Maiha, who applauded Kaduna’s bold strides in overhauling its transport ecosystem.
They particularly commended Kaduna for being, after Lagos, the only state with a comprehensive State Transport Policy, a milestone that positions it as a leading hub for infrastructure renewal and sustainable mobility in Northern Nigeria.
In his address titled “The Kaduna Story,” Governor Sani outlined the state’s major transport reforms aimed at improving connectivity and economic growth. These include:
Construction and rehabilitation of over 785 kilometres of roads;
Launch of the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit (KBRT), the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria;
Introduction of a subsidised CNG and hybrid bus scheme, offering free rides to students, workers, and the vulnerable;
Initiation of the Kaduna Light Rail Project; and
Modernisation of motor parks and trailer terminals to boost efficiency, safety, and revenue.
The Governor expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his “visionary leadership and support,” particularly in approving the Kaduna Light Rail Project. He also commended Senator Said Ahmed Alkali for his steadfast collaboration with the state government.
Governor Sani said the CIoTA recognition serves as both “an honour and an inspiration” that reinforces Kaduna’s commitment to developing a modern, inclusive, and environmentally responsible transport system that enhances livelihoods and drives sustainable growth.
