Three personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been killed by suspected bandits along the Tsamiya–Illo road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The slain officers were identified as DCRMA Umar Aliyu, SRMA Ezra Manu Gona, and RMA I Mansur Ibrahim Nasir.
Local sources told journalists that the officers were on official duty when they were ambushed by armed men suspected to be bandits operating in the area.
According to a source, the FRSC personnel attempted to escape upon sighting the attackers, but the gunmen, who were reportedly riding motorcycles, pursued them and killed them before they could seek refuge in nearby bushes.
The source said the attackers, estimated to be about 20 in number, fled into the forest immediately after carrying out the attack.
He further alleged that the incident was the fifth attack targeting security personnel on duty within the Tsamiya–Illo axis, a corridor that has witnessed recurring security challenges in recent years.
Residents expressed concern over the continued attacks on security operatives in the area, noting that the latest incident highlights the growing insecurity along border communities in Bagudo Local Government Area.
According to local accounts, more than 10 personnel drawn from the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Nigeria Police Force have reportedly been killed by armed groups in the Tsamiya/Maje axis between last year and the present.
The latest attack is expected to renew calls for stronger security measures and increased deployment of personnel to vulnerable communities within the local government area.
As of the time of filing this report, the FRSC had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Efforts to obtain comments from the agency’s spokesperson in Kebbi State were unsuccessful, as calls made to the public relations officer were not returned.
