Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill of N642.9 billion into law, weeks after presenting the proposed budget to the State House of Assembly.
The governor assented to the bill at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, where he commended members of the House for what he described as timely scrutiny and the speedy passage of the budget. He assured the lawmakers of the strict implementation of the appropriation law.
Governor Idris disclosed that recurrent expenditure stands at N163.57 billion, representing 25 per cent of the total budget, while capital expenditure amounts to N479.36 billion, accounting for 75 per cent of the overall budget size of N642.9 billion.
He noted that the 2026 Appropriation Bill, titled “Budget of Transformation and People’s Empowerment,” makes provisions for key priority areas, including N3 billion for the State Security Trust Fund, N30 billion for the construction of the Koko–Mahuta–Dabai Road, as well as the continuation of scholarship schemes for students.
The governor also praised the State Assembly for maintaining a cordial working relationship with the executive arm of government and urged the various House committees to effectively carry out their oversight functions to ensure full implementation of the budget.
Earlier, while presenting the bill for assent, the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Usman Zuru, described the signing of the 2026 budget as a significant milestone in the democratic journey of the state.
