The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has convened a preparatory stakeholders’ meeting towards the development of a National Policy on Relief and Rehabilitation Intervention (NPRRI).
The meeting brought together members of NEMA’s management alongside key development and humanitarian partners to deliberate on the framework for the proposed policy.
Declaring the meeting open, the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, represented by her Special Assistant, Hajia Rakiya Bello Umar, welcomed participants and appreciated their commitment to the process.
She highlighted the importance of the proposed policy and urged stakeholders to actively engage to ensure outcomes that would strengthen national disaster response mechanisms.
Participants noted that the formulation of the NPRRI is timely, given that despite NEMA’s leadership role in disaster management for over two decades, the Agency is yet to operate with a dedicated national policy specifically guiding relief and rehabilitation interventions.
Technical partners present at the meeting included the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank, and Oxfam.
