The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Haruna Musa, has charged athletes representing the institution at this year’s Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) competition to be good ambassadors throughout the championship.
Professor Musa described sports as a vital tool for fostering unity, peace, and cordial relationships among various ethnic groups in the country.
Speaking through the university’s Director of Sports, Professor Rabiu Muhammad—popularly known as Chanhu—the Vice Chancellor said the university has continued to prioritize the welfare of its athletes as part of efforts to motivate and encourage them to excel in both national and international competitions.
“Sports is not a do-or-die affair. Participating in competitions brings joy, happiness, unity, peace, and love among athletes,” he explained.
Professor Musa revealed that over 150 male and female athletes, along with coaches and officials, have safely arrived at the University of Jos, venue of the championship, ahead of the opening ceremony.
He added that BUK will participate in 13 sporting events, including football, chess, judo, taekwondo, tennis, basketball, hockey, badminton, and athletics, among others.
The Vice Chancellor expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform well, citing their impressive showing during the NUGA preliminary stage held at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUST), Wudil.
He assured that the BUK contingent is fully prepared to make a strong impact at the NUGA Games, scheduled to take place in Jos, the Plateau State capital, from November 8 to 17, 2025.
